Manaeesh-Cheese Bread

This is a soft, fluffy flatbread brushed with garlic butter and topped with melted cheese. It’s simple, so flavorful, and best served warm right out of the oven.

Ingredients (makes about 4 to 6)

Dough
1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
2½ cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons olive oil
¾ teaspoon salt

Garlic Butter
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1½ teaspoons garlic powder
¼ teaspoon salt

Toppings
Shredded cheese
Red pepper flakes, optional
Oregano or dried thyme

Instructions

In a bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, sugar, and 1 cup of the flour. Mix until smooth, then cover and let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.

Add the remaining flour, olive oil, and salt. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 30 to 60 minutes, or until doubled in size.

While the dough rises, mix together the melted butter, garlic powder, and salt. Set aside.

Preheat your oven to 425°F.

Once the dough has risen, divide it into portions and flatten each into a round. Place on a lined baking sheet.

Brush lightly with the garlic butter, then add cheese and any additional toppings.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are golden and the cheese is melted.

TIPS

Serve warm for the best texture.

You can use mozzarella or any cheese you like.

You can also add za’atar or keep it simple with just garlic and cheese.
